On Ridge Road
Ridge Road is a 121.5 Mile east-west road spanning Upstate New York like a latitude line. The road is built on a 10-30 foot high sedimentary deposit which was the old shore of Glacial Lake Iroquois during the last ice-age. This ridge was a major Iroquois trail before European colonists arrived. I grew up driving on this road in Brockport, NY, always driving through quickly and never taking the time to appreciate the character of the places, people and its history.
